Webster University and SUFE Launch Joint Alumni Program

Only an hour after the graduation hat tossing picture, leadership at Webster University and SUFE gathered in the re-set banquet hall at the Crown Plaza, Fudan to christen a truly new combined effort between the two universities. January 10, 2015 was the first time since the start of the program that both universities worked together in a jointly operated alumni association C just for the alums, who graduated from the Webster/SUFE Joint MBA Program.

Provost Schuster and Dean Sun Zheng open ceremonies for the new Joint Alumni Associaiton at Shanghai.

"From the start of classes in 1997," China Director Rick Foristel observed, "alumni events were very separate, either organized by SUFE, or put on by Webster. It's a changed China since 1997, and SUFE and other China universities are approaching education and alums C differently. There is a more open atmosphere than past years."

Two of the three outstanding alumni.  Executive Dean Lou Yuding (L.) presents iPhone 6 awards to Chen Li and Xu Kai.  Shirely Ping (R.) is Deputy Dean the SUFE College of Business.

Even before the gala gathering, kicked-off at the Crown Plaza, alumni across Shanghai were looking forward to an organization that would bring alums together for networking and sharing. One class, (2001) had organized 40 classmates to be at the kickoff then enjoy a Saturday night dinner. It was only one group in a crowded ballroom. The alums of the Webster-SUFE MBA Program felt they did not have support from either organization to get together more. Now, Webster and SUFE staff, along with resources will methodically, through the year, plan events that can benefit all.

The new SUFE/Webster Alumni Association board is (L. to R.) Zhao Wenjun, Yu Liang, Dean Luo, Tong Lixia, Richard Frositel, Jian Hongzhou, Luo Yilin, Chenxi, Li Binbin, Benson Wang, Guan Jianglin, Lisa Jang, Sandy Zhang, Jennifer Ye, Liu Yunfeng, Wang Lei .

Dr. Julian Schuster, Provost of Webster University, introduced to the packed hall the brand new association. Standing on an open stage, he spoke to faculty, SUFE administrators, and even current MBA students, along with eager members of past classes, saying ---

"It is with much thoughtful planning and preparation that I am pleased to announce to you the formation of a new alumni organization for Webster SUFE MBA students.

This organization will have many of the same goals of the Webster Alumni Association, including more opportunities for personal and professional meetings, more opportunities for networking and relationship building among and between alumni, current students and faculty.

Webster University and SUFE want to remain in contact with you and each of you with one another even those from different joint program classes. This organization and its many events and resources will allow you opportunities to communicate and learn more from each other and participate in professional and social functions.

Approximately 150 alumni, current students, faculy and administrators, attended the launch of the new Alumni Association.  Next to standing camer are (L.to R.) Dean Sun Zheng, Provost Shuster, President Li Koqing of National Accounting Institute and SUFE Dean Luo Yuding.
